Strength in portfolio is illustrated by breadth but with the important distinction of independence and an appreciation of interdependence.

Vendor independence gives free choice from the top tier of manufacturers in each technology area. Importantly this is reflected in the CAE sales approach, which is not driven by hidden back end rebates, but maintains a complete independence that allows a purchasing decision to be driven totally by customer demand.

A feature CAE's portfolio management is an understanding of the interdependence of each technology. As a result of the portfolio growing organically, not through an amalgamation of disparate acquisitions, each element has been introduced because of a close fit into a core product set.

This means that the impact of introducing a product into an infrastructure is always assessed for compatibility and opportunities can be explored to maximise benefit from complementary products.

For example, server additions should be examined for storage requirements, network switches should allow for deployment of advanced technologies such as wireless or IPT by using in-line power and desktop / laptop roll outs should be accompanied by a review of software licensing.
