CAE goes to the ends of the earth
The team that CAE has sponsored on an extraordinary challenge to reach the South Pole has been successful in their mission.
The Optical Express South Pole Challenge is:
- A 700mile ski journey to the South Pole
- A pioneering vision research project
- Promoting public awareness of the importance of eye health examinations
- Helping people with visual disorders by supporting: Guide Dogs for the Blind, the International Glaucoma Association (IGA) and the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB)
On the 23rd January 2008 the team of Cameron Hudson and John Huston reached the pole and sent dispatches on reaching their goal saying, “Our 57 day journey has included only one rest day and we have completed the last 300nm in just 20 days. I don't think that any of us realises how tired we actually are but we are looking forward to plenty of sleep, normal food and a good wash. It's -34C today, a scorcher”.
CAE not only sponsored the team but also provided important AV equipment so that the trip could be fully evidenced.
CAE Managing Director, Justin Harling, commented, “When someone is committed enough to great causes that they are literally willing to travel to the ends of the world in support then they deserve enormous respect and encouragement. It is fantastic news that the expedition has been successful”.
